Look Around, Leaves Are Brown

As the Paul Simon song suggest, it's "A Hazy Shade of Winter". With the lack of snow the true colours (drab brown) of the seasons show through. One day the lakes are frozen. The next it rains and the water opens up. Footnote: It seems like every time I post about the lack snow, it snows here. Last night it was a blowing and a snowing. Only ended up with about 3 centimetres. Today temperatures will be arising and it's going to rain.

The Altona Mennonite Meeting House

You will find the structure in what is now known as the Altona Ghost Town. Built in 1852 by pioneers who emigrated from Pennsylvania it is surrounded by the only cemetery in the community.  It contains the graves of the pioneers who settled in the area in the early 1800's.

The floors and pews, are of simple construction and are as they were in 1852. The plastered, walls and ceilings are stark white as they have been through all of the many years. The ceiling has been replastered recently, using authentic materials.

Signs, Signs - Koi

One flaw in the sign is that it looks more like a muskie rather than a koi. I took the photo on April 14, 2010 and the nursery has since relocated. Creative Exchange - Between The Posts

I have taken dozens of photographs at this location. My eyes were scanning for something different. Suddenly between the railing posts I spotted a swan feeding on the bay. My camera was already set to f/11 for aperture priority. I knew I had to be quick and shoot the scene before the swan resurfaced. What you see is what I got. I'm linking to The Creative Exchange
