Winter Storage Service

At Whitby Harbour this is how they move the big ones onto land for winter storage. It's fresh water, therefore it freezes over in the winter. The pressure washer on the right is used to clean hull. They must make sure the zebra mussels are cleaned off.

Sitting at dockside a short distance away is Durham Region's police boat. I'm not sure when it is placed into storage but I would think it would be one of the last ones taken out.

Toronto Maple Leafs

If you are Leaf's fan you will understand the message. The last time the Toronto Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup was in 1967. This season the National Hockey League owners have locked out their players over a contract dispute. This good news for the Leafs... they will lose less games.

Sunday Bridges - Port Hope

In 1856 the Grand Trunk Railway connected Port Hope to Toronto and the Atlantic seaboard. It's viaduct over the Ganaraska River was the second greatest engineering challenge on the route, exceeded only by bridging the St. Lawrence River at Montreal. This view is looking to east.

Haunted Building - Middlesex County Courthouse

Located in London, Ontario and erected in 1830, this building is modelled after Malahide Castle, near Dublin, Ireland. The courthouse is the reputed haunt of Marion "Peg Leg" Brown. Convicted of murdering Constable Michael Toohey, a member of the local Constabulary, he escaped custody, but was later recaptured in Washington State, and sent back to London to have his sentence meted out.

******************************************

On May 17th, 1899, "Peg Leg", was escorted to the gallows, where he is said to have repeatedly expressed his innocence of the crime, and twice cursed the courthouse, saying that no grass would ever grow on his grave, and that he would continue to haunt the courthouse, especially on the anniversary of his execution. As for Peg Leg’s former resting place, it was paved over with asphalt - finally realizing the "curse" that no grass would ever grow over his grave.

Ladies In Masks

I met these two young ladies in the Town Of Bowmanville. It was the noise they were making that got my attention as they walked along the sidewalk. They had a megaphone and a air horn that they were not afraid to use. They where selling tickets to a stage show. The money collected from the sale of the tickets would go towards a project to improve the fish ladder in Bowmanville Creek. I talked to them for a few minutes and when I asked if I could take their photo I was surprised at how eager they were to pose for my camera.
