Port Stanley

Located in Canada on the north shore of Lake Erie. It is famous for it's

Abandoned Lamoreaux Cemetery

Privately owned and just few hundred feet from the road but obscure from the general public. The headstone reads " Margaret Wife of William Simpson - 58 years - Died 1846". "Sophia Briggs - Died April 1, 1853". "Dan (Briggs?) - Died April 10, 1853".

Rather than vandals, this is the work of the tree roots. I was unable to ascertain the writings on the stones. I did not want to disturb them for a better view.

Winter Fun - Ice Skating

Underneath the snow Frenchman's Bay has a smooth thick surface of ice.

Cold, Cold, Cold

Lake Ontario shoreline on a cold day of -19 celsius. According to CNN weatherman Chad Myers this cold weather has nothing to do with climate change. It's caused by the jet stream pushing cold arctic air down to the south.

This is my third consecutive post in a row of photos from Model "A" Acres Bed & Breakfast. This life size model of a Sopwith Camel is another of Ian Baron's creations. He built it to commemorate "The Year of the Veteran" in 2005

WWII Fighter Planes

Life size model of a German 1944 Messerschmitt ME 109 G. Created by Ian Baron owner of Model "A" Acres Bed & Breakfast. There's a mannequin dressed like Adolf Galland, smoking his cigar at the controls.

This model of a 1944 Spitfire Mk 1X is also a recreation by Ian Baron. In Ian's own words "The construction techniques are a lot more complex and it is a much bigger plane. I finished the Spitfire in the summer of 2009."

Abandoned Home

Not the original home, but located on the ordinal property settled by Christian Reesor (1747-1806) and his wife Fanny Reiff (1751-1818). They were born in Pennsylvania and emigrated to Canada in 1804.

The Reesor clan became prominent and still are to this day in Markham, Ontario. I'm almost sure the lot still belongs to them. Urban sprawl is catching up to this old home and I don't expect it to be left standing much longer.

The Ice Is Back!

A mild spell in temperatures melted the lake ice and open water returned. Now we are back into a deep freeze and the ice has reformed.
PS: This photo was taken a few days ago. Last night we had an other meltdown with rain, thunder and lightning. It's predicted that deep freeze will return today. What a roller-coaster ride.

Bridge Builders

Building a new bridge to span the river valley is something I have seen many times before. What I haven't seen before is preserving the original Bailey Bridge intact underneath. According to York Region the reason for the new bridge is to relieve traffic congestion and improve transit, walking, cycling facilities and road safety. Otherwise urban sprawl is moving in.
