American Standard Mill: Cambridge, Ontario - Panorama

This four-storey limestone building on the Speed River was initially built in 1847 by Jacob Hespeler as a stone grist and flour mill. During the twentieth century, the former mill site has had a variety of names. The owners have been American Standard since 1969, now a division of Wabco Standard Drain. The mill dam and adjacent "Jacob’s Landing" park are a great place to view this historic stone mill. The plan is to renovate the building for condominiums.

The Bride Wore Boots

Continuing from yesterday's posting. I was standing on the bridge trying to photograph the water below when the bride began walking towards me. She didn't mind one bit that I was photographing her.

My wife has had these flowers planted at the side of the house for umpteen years.
They are early bloomers and have never disappointed.

What A Difference A Year Makes

This is me last year on May 13, 2012. The weather was warm enough to sit outside to eat breakfast and checkout the Sunshine Girl. This year I have been freezing my buns off.

Ball's Mill - Baltimore, Ontario

Ball’s Mill began as a carding mill and sawmill in 1842. It was owned and operated for three generations of the Ball family until it was purchased by the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority. In 1988 Paul Rapati bought the mill, saving it from being torn down due to a lack of funding for restoration projects.
He is currently working on restoring the mill and maintains it as a place of community pride and connection to heritage.

Birch Trees

Birch trees are a popular item for landscaping.

*********************************************

I'm no expert so all of this info is from the internet.
Birch tree flowers known as catkins appear early in spring and release their pollen in clouds during April, and the seeds ripen from July to August. The scented flowers are monoecious (individual flowers are either male or female, but both sexes can be found on the same plant) and are pollinated by wind. The small (1-2 mm) winged seeds ripening in late summer.

Toronto Fire Station

Station #315, 132 Bellevue Avenue, Toronto. This is one of the city's oldest stations built in 1878. It is a two storey structure with an eight storey clock tower. The current tower partially rebuilt in 1972, after the tower and its clock were set ablaze by an arsonist. (sic) The tower's clock was not salvageable, and a replica replaced the original when the tower was rebuilt over the course of 1972 to 1973.

Young Deer

I spotted this young guy (gal?) in a urban area where tandem dump trucks are stored.
The deer stayed in this position for about two minutes while I kept on clicking.

She finally stood up and nonchalantly wandered closer
to the house in the background where I lost sight of her.

Burnt Dam: Havelock, Ontario

In the summer the flow of water is so little that one can walk
where you see the heavier flow of water an not get wet.
