That ringneck also bothers me. I'm guessing that it gives the trackers a means of checking up on the goose without disturbing her. With a leg band she would have to capture her to see the identification tag.
I certainly hope there's some flexibility in that neck tag. I haven't seen that done before. It seems intrusive. They have quite a nice family there. Love the sweet downy-ness you caught so well.
