Disintegrating

Once a year I am able to walk out onto the ice and take a photo of these old relics. The pillars in the photo are the remains of the original town dock for the village of Dunbarton installed in 1843 by the Pickering Road And Stock Company.

Skating... Frenchman's Bay

Usually the boards are for hockey games but I haven't seen any one using them. It's a mystery to me why they are there.

Signs - Gas Station... Blast From The Past

Also known as Canadian Oil, White Rose used to be gasoline service stations in Canada. In 1962 Shell Oil bought Canadian Oil (White Rose), which included 2,900 retail outlets, refineries in Sarnia, Ontario and Bowden, Alberta. I'm linking to Lesley's Signs, Signs.

Pine Grove Pioneer Church

Built in 1878 it became an appointment on the Uxbridge circuit. It was known as the "Wilderness Appointment". It is still open for at least two services a year and has retained the original board and batten exterior, pews, organ and the ambiance of yesterday. The church was used in several episodes of the Canadian TV series Road to Avonlea.

Signs - Slippery

The plastic wrapped boats have people living in them. One of advantages of this life style is that when the ramp gets wet you get free break dancing lessons. I'm linking to Lesley's Signs, Signs.

Winter Squirrel

With yesterday's snow storm a lot people took a snow day and stayed home. This poor guy can't afford to do that. In the animal kingdom, the struggle of survival continues every day. It's a never ending battle of searching for food and concealment from predators.

Winter Storm Warning

Snow storm blowing through here today. Heavy snow and blowing snow continues across Southern Ontario. For areas south of a line from Sarnia towards Hamilton, total snowfall amounts of 25 to 35 cm are likely, with the highest amounts near the Great Lakes. North of this line from Huron - Perth through Waterloo - Wellington and the Greater Toronto Area, total amounts will likely be in the 15 to 20 cm range. In addition to the heavy snow, winds have strengthened reducing visibility to 05 km or less in blowing snow. Wind chill values near -20°C to -25°C are likely for all regions in the winter storm warning. The worst conditions are generally expected early this morning. The morning commute is expected to be significantly affected by this winter storm.

Winter Wet Storage

That white patch you see on the lower left hand side is ice. There is also ice in the background. Around the boats the water is open. In order to prevent the surface water from freezing one will need a air-bubbler system or the propeller-agitator. Most people think it that is the motion of the water that keeps it from freezing. That would be false. What really keeps it from icing is forcing the warmer (usually above 39°F, 4°C) water from the bottom to the surface.
