Monday Night

2016 is the year that I decided to get serious about night photography. The last few years I had been eyeing this corner store located in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

It was the lighting that that caught my eye.

A good place to play chess but don't eat here. The service is very, very slow.

Under The Sea

A wrap around mural on two walls located in Cambridge, Ontario.
It is the kind of scene I would expect to see in a child's storybook.

American Standard Mill Condos

When completed, residents will hear the rush of water on the Speed River and enjoy a stellar view of the Mill Pond. The building will feature condo style finishes and amenities including an expansive residents' lounge, large rooftop terrace and fitness facility.
__

The four storey limestone building on the right was initially built in 1847 by Jacob Hespeler as a stone grist and flour mill. In 1913 the stone complex became a factory for manufacturing kitchen sinks. American Standard bought the property in 1969 to build sinks and bathtubs. On Sept. 13, 2007, American Standard’s 58 employees left the factory and never returned. Their jobs went to Mexico. The old building is about to be converted into riverbank loft condo units.

Catch Of The Day

He caught it and now it's time to eat it.
__

I watch him for about 15 minutes but he could not swallow his catch. His throat was just not big enough.
__

If seagulls drank coffee I would call this his coffee break.

The break is over. Let's try again.

B&W Colour

Some times I can't decide if I should shoot black & white or colour.

Local Hero

Artist Ean Kools painted this mural as a tribute to Ken Boyle. Ken was a man who cared and gave a lot of his time to his neighborhood in Hespeler, Ontario. In April of 2002 he saved an elderly couple from their burning home by bursting through the front door and guiding the couple to a safe location. Have a look at the beard and you will see the name of is home town that he was so dedicated to. Sadly Ken Boyle past away in his sleep in May of 2016.

The Tragically Hip Way

The City Of Kingston honoured their hometown band with a change of a street name. The original signs on what was formerly the lower block of Barrack Street read only "Tragically Hip Way" instead of using the band's full name: The Tragically Hip.

The additional letters made the new signs longer than any other street signs in Kingston, so long that city workers had to fashion new brackets to give them additional support.

By adding the word "The" to the street name the city is going against the precedent established elsewhere. The Beatles have a Beatles Lane named after them in Florida and a Beatles Court in Australia, all without the word "The." The Rolling Stones have four streets called Rolling Stones Lane in the U.S., again all without "The" in the name.
My thanks to the The Kingston Whig-Standard for the above information.

Happy Smoker

When I was walking past her I looked at her and asked "if her mother knew she smoked"? I took about two steps and heard her burst out laughing. So I just had to turn around and strike up a conversation which lead to this photograph.

The building on the left is under construction, the one on the right is occupied and there is a UFO in the sky.

Blazing Red

When you are photographing sunrises and sunsets don't forget to look behind. In this case the sunrise radiance on this building was stealing the show.

Chéticamp Lighthouse

Located on an island in Chéticamp, Nova Scotia. Crossing on the causeway one can drive out to  Enragee Point. Surrounded by chain link fence and in the off season when I was there the gate is locked with a chain and pad lock.
__

Lucky for me the gate had enough play in it to poke my camera through to get this shot. The original tower was constructed in 1937. This concrete tower replaced it at some time between 1955 and 1962 and the light was automated in 1988. I promise that this will be my last posting of a lighthouse for 2016.

Wesley Methodist Church 1873

Beautiful is the large church,
With stately arch and steeple;
Neighbourly is the small church,
With groups of friendly people;
Reverent is the old church,
With centuries of grace;
And a wooden church or a stone church,
Can hold an alter place.
And whether it be a rich church Or a poor church anywhere,
Truly it is a great church If God is worshiped there. ...author unknown

Copse

Just a  scene that I found attractive and had to photograph.
