| On August 29, 2001, Ontario Power Generation officially started operating the largest wind turbine (at the time) in North America at the Pickering Nuclear facility. Eighteen years later... according to Ontario Power the cost to replace the turbine’s older parts is too high, and leaving the turbine in place but not operating would present a safety concern, they made the decision to move forward with dismantling it. |
...I've heard that this can become a problem when they age.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful pic, Andy! Sad about the turbine.
ReplyDeleteMagnificent moment captured, colors are superb!
ReplyDeleteThat somehow seems like a shame to me. On the other hand, your photo is beautiful. Such a wonderful sky.
ReplyDeleteA problem either way.
ReplyDeleteHow a good idea turned in to a tough decision to dismantle it because of costs.
ReplyDeleteStunning sky and reflections shot, Andy.
this image has such wonderful warm shades of blue to gold Andy... the reflections and silhouettes are superb... i am glad that they are going to dismantling it....peter:)
ReplyDeleteSad, and surprising to see a wind turbine coming down. They are bing built as fast as possible around here. Your photo with that great reflection is stunning.
ReplyDeletePreciso atardecer con un gran contraste.
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo.
Thats not a really long lifecycle for such an investment. Lets say it was a test. Your photo on the other hand is very successful.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shot. It's a shame that chucking the turbine is their only feasible alternative...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful reflection!
