Toronto Transit Commission
Archives 2015. Sunday only stops, were established in the 1920s to reduce walking distance to nearby churches. In 2016 the TTC removed all of the Sunday stops for safety reasons, as none are located at signalized intersections or crosswalks.
I am also assuming there are many fewer downtown churches these days. It is good there is regular public transport running on Sunday even if they do not make special stops.
It worked for a long time but not these days with so many churches closing. I am trying to think of what church is near where you took this pic - College st, right?
...some ideas don't pan out!
ReplyDeleteThe idea alone. But great capture of the buzy street traffic.
ReplyDeleteThat was actually a very thoughtful effort but I can understand why it was discontinued.

ReplyDeleteA great idea back then but not today. Love the street scene, Andy!

ReplyDeleteI just remembered the one on the corner which is now part of U of T!
ReplyDeleteMagnifica escena de la vida en la ciudad
ReplyDeleteIt is a great scene Andy-- Sometimes good ideas turn out otherwise.
ReplyDeleteI like the streetview with the traffic.
ReplyDeleteTall buildings, cars passing by and a bus stop with no crossing...nice capture.
ReplyDeleteInteresting scene. Sunday stops were a nice concept.
ReplyDeleteI do get why it was discontinued.
