| The golden light you see in the background on the right hand side is from the Royal Bank Plaza Towers. They have been insulated for heat by having the windows covered with a very thin coating of 24 carat gold leaf. The 41 and 26 storey towers have a total of 14,000 windows, covered with 2,500 ounces (70,875 grams) of gold, valued at over one million dollars. |
What a strange idea some people can have that gold means richdom. Reminds me of that awful golden Trump Tower in NY I once had a look inside the hall.
ReplyDeleteWhen you are going to catch skyscrapers in numbers they become increasingly astronomical in a few thoughts. With or without gold.
ReplyDelete...in an urban canyon.
ReplyDeleteThat is exactly how feels.
DeleteAn expensive choice of insulation.
ReplyDeleteWell, of course. Where else would you put your gold? :-)
ReplyDeleteWow! That's some expensive window shade! Guess I'm stuck with my ordinary window blinds. Great city shot!
ReplyDeleteNot much sun down in that canyon, Andy!
ReplyDeleteThere is a certain irony in a bank covered in gold, but it makes for great light in your photo.
ReplyDeleteWow, and here I thought copper was an expensive building material. I had not heard of using gold like that before. Very interesting.
ReplyDeleteA familiar sight to me.
ReplyDeleteMakes for a great photograph. Remind me of the Grand Canyon! I wonder why the needed the gold? I guess you don't have to worry about hurricanes.
ReplyDeleteA remarkable capture! Good stuff, Andy.
ReplyDeleteReally!?!? I have not heard of gold being used as insulation. Seems an expensive choice (makes a nice photo though...)
ReplyDeleteUhm...that makes quite a royal statement, doesn't it? I'm not sure how I'd feel if my bank coated its exterior with gold, leaf or any other form, as insulation or sheer extravagance.
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice to visit - a short one - but I wouldn't entertain living there for a nanosecond!
ReplyDeleteEspectacular panoramica urbana, amigo... Muy buena imagen
