Rusty Water Tower
Located in Hastings, Ontario the tower is a left over of the Breithaupt Leather Company which operated from 1906 until 1982. This company was credited for keeping the town from ‘going under’ during the Great Depression.
I love discovering an old water tower. I knew a woman who was swept away in their house by Hurricane Hazel as they slept. The firemen managed to rescue them somewhere south of Dundas st.
A nice old relic from the time you could understand a function by its appearance. Nice one Andy.
ReplyDelete...a scene that could be found in many places here!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if it still holds water.
ReplyDeleteI like old water towers. They look so "hometown".
ReplyDeleteQuite evocative of its day.

Our town just replaced a water tower that looked like this one. The roosting vultures had to find a new home.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember the last time I saw a water tower except in an occasional movie.
ReplyDeleteIt clearly has stood the test of time, Andy!
ReplyDeleteIndeed something of the past, very rustic.
ReplyDeleteI like old water towers almost as much as old barns. Nice find!
ReplyDeleteInteresting and a neat image of the towns past.
