Stability
Have you ever wondered why Canada Geese stand on one leg? The most common reason, especially for birds in northern areas, is to conserve heat. Their bodies are covered in warm feathers, their legs are bare and they can get cold when they're exposed.
This weekend I saw a couple large flocks of geese headed north. The might have been Snow Geese, but I couldn't tell at the distance. Our lakes are still ice covered, but our snow has melted. Geese do have an excellent sense of balance.
...and I have problems standing on two feet!
ReplyDeleteGood to see this set.
ReplyDeletePracticing for dance class? ;-)

ReplyDeleteWhen I was much younger, I could stand like that. It's a good thing it isn't necessary for us humans.
ReplyDeleteDoes that also apply to other geese that have Canadian passports.
ReplyDeleteIt's all a balancing act.
ReplyDeleteA good looking trio.
ReplyDeleteClever birds, would wish them socks to put on... :)
