Right at the moment he owns the corner. The green cup is for donations of spare change. It is 28°C/82°F and he is wearing a winter coat. There are times when the homeless wear their coats to protect them from theft.

It was a great day for reflections. I have been getting inquiries about the guy with the camera. That is my son and every once and awhile we get together and photograph life on the streets. He is much better at it than me.

Artist Adrian Hayles. The mural features the faces of music luminaries like Ronnie Hawkins and Gordon Lightfoot plus marquees from legendary venues such as Le Coq d’Or and Massey Hall, and the dual neon discs of the famed Sam the Record Man sign.

The mural is meant to capture Yonge Street’s heyday in the ‘50s and ‘60s when stars like B.B. King and Muddy Waters played in clubs along the strip.

It is 6:43 A.M. and and local bylaws do not allow construction work to begin before 7 A.M. These trucks are parked on the side of the road waiting for the countdown to end. When that happens they will begin hulling dirt from the construction site of a new condominium hi-rise.

My Tribute... Sixth Of June, D-Day

Andy | Tuesday, June 06, 2017 | Best Blogger Tips
The battle on D-Day was one of the major steps in the liberation of Europe. Pat Keely Free Holland Welcomes the Allies 1944. Poster printed in London in 1944 at the behest of the Polish government in exile when the assumption was the the war would be over by Christmas. The Dutch hired the best - Keely was an important much admired British artist. He envisions a victory parade route, brilliantly hung with Allied flags, doubling as a ghostly crusaders sword with the welcoming Dutch soldier standing in the crossing. The allies as modern crusaders was an omnipresent theme during the war. Dwight Eisenhower named his memoir Crusade in Europe. Ingenious and joyful design that alas, could not be used until the spring of 1945.

After The Rain

Andy | Saturday, June 03, 2017 | Best Blogger Tips
Recently there was a rain storm that lasted for 24 hours. When it was over I decided to take some pictures of wife's Columbine flowers. I set my camera up on a tripod. The big surprise came when I looked into the view finder and spotted a strange creature that I had never seen before. That white thread like worm was squirming and twisting trying very hard to move on up higher. After searching the the internet the best identification I could come with was Horsehair Worms. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Andy | Sunday, May 21, 2017 | Best Blogger Tips
Peter Richards is regular street Busker on the corner of Yonge St. and Dundas St., West in Toronto. Some people view Buskers as panhandlers but this is the furthest thing from the truth. One must have a street entertainer's permit from the city. There are rules... no obstruction of narrow sidewalks, not playing directly on street corners and no amplifiers. Apparently one of the worst things about street busking is the retirement plan.

B-25 Bomber - Hot Gen!

Andy | Friday, May 19, 2017 | Best Blogger Tips
The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum's B-25J Mitchell was assembled in Kansas City in early 1945, but never saw military service. It was operated as a civilian transport for over 25 years and the Museum found it abandoned at Wilmington Airport, Delaware, in 1975. After repairs, the aircraft was flown to the Museum, where it underwent extensive restoration. The aircraft now displays the markings of a B-25J of RAF No. 98 Squadron, which fought over North West Europe during 1944-45. It is dedicated to the Canadians who flew with that squadron. This model of airplane is well remembered for its role in the Doolittle Raid, on April 18, 1942, the first air raid by the United States to strike the Japanese homeland during World War II. Sixteen B-25B aircraft were launched from the U.S. Navy's aircraft carrier USS Hornet. The strike made the Japanese realize that they were vulnerable to attack, and served as a morale booster for the United States.
____

" Hot Gen" by artist Lance Russwurm. As the United States entered World War II, nose art regulations were relaxed, or in many cases totally ignored. WWII would become the golden age of aircraft artistry. Pin-ups represented a dominant theme on the noses of WWII bombers and fighters. Artists often mimicked Vargas style "fantasy girl" pinup art on the military aircraft they painted. This plane is being prepared for the summer flying season. On Father's Day many of the Museum’s vintage aircraft will be flown throughout the weekend.

The building on the left is the Fallsview Casino Resort and the building right is The Oakes Hotel. I'll let you guess at what is is in between then. .
