It's only a single lane and operates without traffic lights. Car drivers wait until there is no oncoming traffic before crossing. The system works because this is a more civilized part of the world. Learn more about the Hartland bridge.

  1. What a lovely post for C this week. Thanks for sharing the Covered Bridge, otherwise, I would never have known about it. I am learning so much these last three weeks as I visited so many blogs each week. Thanks for sharing with us this wonderful piece of history. And it's good to hear you all are so Civilized in that part of the World.... ; )

  2. Gramma Ann... Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately I don't live there. I live in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) in Ontario, where things are not civilized on the roadways. When I said civilized I meant how something is done or how it happens.

  3. I was looking forward to a candy covered bridge. Then I realised Candy is the name you used for your blog.

The bridge looks fantastic though. I've never been one of those yet...

  5. That is one long, dark bridge.
I remember going across it as a child and not liking the dark tunnel. I was also afraid of bridges for the height and being over water. My father was not pleased with me.

  6. Great photos! This bridge looks beautiful against the bright blue sky, and the flags do also. Nice perspective in the first shot, and it really does look very long.

  7. ah- my mom loves these. She has pictures of them from all over back east. She also used to paint watercolors of them. They, therefore remind me of my mommy. Great picture and C post

  8. That'd never work here: standoffs at best, crashes at worst.

    But I LOVE it!

  9. I love this photo... big bridge fan and hey, I have been in the longest covered bridge WEST of the Mississippi which isn't open to traffic anymore but is next to a great abandoned Mill... hey, I appreciate what I can get.

I wonder why bridges were ever covered in the first place?

    Hmmmmm.

C is for... "Love" left behind?

  11. That's just great, Ansy... the longest covered bridge. Now I have another reason to go to New Brunswick, a side of Canada I have not seen.
