Outdoor Hockey

If you see young people playing pond hockey, there is very good chance that you just might be in Canada.

  1. Perhaps it was now time to bring your telelens in play. Yesterday we here in Holland had also some parts were people were skating on nature ice. A big happing. So big that national television put it in their eight o'clock journal. Pity today the temps are above zero again.

  2. I like that, we had a little bit of ice here too but not enough to play hockey on it.

  9. You did a wonderful job of framing this photo! This is definitely not something I would ever see where I live.

  10. Your photo brings back pleasant memories. I grew up in northern Illinois where we played pond hockey mostly on winter weekends, if the ice allowed. Had real hockey sticks, but no net, and our goalie used a push broom for a stick. It was very informal and we all had great fun. Haven't been back on skates in more than fifty years. Winning didn't have much meaning. It was just for the love of playing, so it was a gentle game.

  12. Our outdoor ice is touch and go, sometimes we get a long enough cold snap, but most if the kids play indoors.

  13. Nice shot!
From the western perspective it certainly is Canadian. I played field hockey in jr. high school but I think that was very rare. I haven't seen hockey played anywhere since (much less by girls). U.S. football? Sure.

  14. Great pic. I almost expect to see a Tim Horten's in the background. ;) We've had some neighbours playing hockey on our lake up here too.. it's fun to watch.

  15. I grew up in Massachusetts next to a pond, and on most cold days when the ice was solid, a hockey game would break out. But, not me. I was a basketball player.
