Heavy Equipment

I am guessing you have seen many power shovels before. This one is a little different than ones you are used to seeing. Look between the treads (tracks) and you will see special equipment for riding on railway tracks. It is a John Deere Railavator. Used in many maintenance applications including undercutting, pulling rail, cutting brush, craning, tamping ties, or just digging and trenching.

  2. I will see them often from next week when traffic closes on the railway line near me. A second track is under construction.

  3. Thanks for pointing out the special features of this equipment. If I had even noticed, it would not have meant anything to me since I am totally unfamiliar with this kind of machine. When my son was a toddler, I spent many hours watching construction from the sidelines.

    1. The main CN rail line between Toronto and Montreal is located at the top of embankment. Lots of freight and Via trains pass through Pickering.

  11. I would not have noticed that. (I am trying to see something clever about the Lexus sign, but I am missing it . . . )

  13. These backhoes are amazing machines. I was just sent a short video of an operator using the arm to place the machine into a full RR gondola car so he could unload it. Haven't seen one with RR wheels between the tracks, but it doesn't surprise me.
