Signs Signs - Real Birds

Municipalities along the waterfront continue to battle the side effects of having Canada Geese living among us.
In the background, sitting on the ice, you can spot the dopiest ones that won't fly south for the winter.

  1. We have quit feeding the waterfowl. Lots of other people do though.

  2. What a great sign, Andy!I too wish people would stop giving birds bread that's no better for them than it is for us.

The Canada Geese here in the Vacouver area tend to stay and make a nusiance of themselves year round...lol.

  3. Great post, Andy, and it makes sense. I believe that most people will do the right thing when they understand the consequences.

  5. I've often wondered how the practice of giving bread to waterfowl started in the first place?

  7. I never thought of it before, but It makes sense. I'm not in the habit of feeding them anyway, but apparently many people do.
    Great sign!

  8. You rarely pass my local park lake without someone with a bag of bread. But then it usually the seagulls rather than swans and mallard that end up with the lion share. The Canada Geese prefer the school sports fields nearby.

  11. I like the way they've worded the sign so it isn't so demanding as just 'do not feed the birds'. I hope it reaches the silly gooses of the human variety who insist on bring their leftover bread (that happens all the time in places where we visit -- from Oregon to Florida.)

  12. this is an informative sign! and a beautiful photo, too. it's not only birds, people tend to feed zoo animals with junk food. a giraffe at the Manila Zoo almost choked on potato chips!

  13. Makes sense to me. I imagine the nutritional content of modern, store-bought bread is close to zilch. Cannot stand the white, squishy stuff.
