One of the displays from Nuit Blanche (sleepless night). It was a free all night contemporary art event in the City Of Toronto. The massive chair structure is by Japanese artist Tadashi Kawamata. According to the official artist’s statement, viewers are meant to ponder how art made up of inanimate objects can call up memories and traces of people who once used them.

I thought it was bonfirenight, in the UK someone would have torched that.
ReplyDeleteIt's locate in a part of the city that is known for trouble. So far, so good.
DeleteI get the feeling of the gostbusters movie where a heap of garbage suddenly became a monster and start walking with the size of this statue. ( Perhaps an other one). I don't think about the individuals who where sitting in them. Still nice artwork. Thanks for showing Andy.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is a huge piece of art!
ReplyDeleteThat is a huge art piece but, I'm not sure I get the feeling the artist is going for.
ReplyDeleteBrings a whole new meaning to the phrase, "Pull up a chair!" haha.
ReplyDeleteWow Andy!
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteI would have liked to have seen that put together. It sure is a big pile!
I wonder how they are attached to each other? Nails? Is this moved in sections? Inquiring minds want to know!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'll buy that but, I would never get that from just looking at the pile of chairs.
ReplyDeleteI would have liked to watch him construct that!
ReplyDeleteAw crap! Sorry, but that's what it looks like, a huge pile of junk. Sometimes I wish "art" would stay in the eye of the creator and leave the eye of the beholder alone! :)
ReplyDeleteNice to see your pic! I gave this one a miss.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I would call it art or not but it's certainly eye catching.
ReplyDeleteIncredible display & also like the conceptual idea for it (how sweet you had a Springer Spaniel!)
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing concept...and sight!
ReplyDeleteAlmost incredible! Almost...
ReplyDeleteOMG... :-)
ReplyDeleteInteresting, but I can't say this one evokes memories or traces of people. Chairs like this seem pretty impersonal to me. And this just looks like a heap waiting to be hauled to the dump. Sigh. I've failed another "hip art" test. . .
ReplyDeleteGreat photo! I also got some photos of this last weekend.
