Seagull

Even though this one is well inland and lives around fresh water we still call them seagulls.
He is much smaller than his saltwater cousins.

  1. He doesn't look too happy. Perhaps he's too far from the sea to get a decent meal.

  6. I used to see these guys in Chicago when I was working there. They have made a home along Lake Michigan.

  7. You got a great close up of this one. I can even see that ring around the bill and that tiny spot of red by the mouth.

  8. We have flocks of them here in the Midwest. Every spring large flocks can be seen following tractors working fields. Apparently they find food turned up by farm implements. We are more than 1,000 miles for the sea in any direction.

  12. I would go with seagull, too. Lakegull sounds kind of lame. Though, if EG says it is a ring-billed gull, it is a ring-billed gull. EG knows birds.
