Ingersoll Train Station

Andy | Monday, January 04, 2016 | Best Blogger Tips

The station was constructed in 1886 by Great Western Railway. In 1979, VIA Rail took over train operations on the line and abandoned the station in favour of the white wooden frame shelter in the background. The Town of Ingersoll wants CN to either repair or demolish its former train station.

The run down building is on federally owned land and therefore the municipality has no jurisdiction over it. Due to the style of the building and it's decaying condition they most likely will just level the building instead of trying to restore or move it.

  1. It was a nice building but it certainly uses some upgrades. Sometimes demolition is better then repair.

  2. It's a great looking building. Let's hope it can be restored though it would take a lot of money..

  4. I can see why they might opt to level it, but that would be a shame. With some money and work this could be a beautiful place and serve as a museum or restaurant or some other such. It really is in pretty bad shape, though! Impressive photos.

  5. That is such a shame. I like the look of this building so much more but, it certainly has been left to ruin.

  7. It's a shame to level it, the exterior brick is nice. I see some nice Victorian elements.

  8. Needs a lot more than a new roof. Too bad.

  11. Too bad but it looks pretty downtroden, Andy! I can't see it being fixed.

  12. Too bad it got to that condition, but you can tell it was a good looking building at one time.

  13. Too bad it was left to ruin. It had nice details and might have had a productive new life.

  14. It has been a very beautiful buildning on it's time.
Now someone should do something, and fast before the building collapses.

  17. It is hard to evaluate without knowing what is around it. I am guessing the train station is not in a populated enough place where converting it to a restaurant or a gift store or an information center would work. So, likely, down it goes.

  18. I would take lots more pictures here and would like to see it restored and re-purposed - someone out there must have deep pockets!

  19. I think we have one station near highway 48 like this. Not sure if it is not in use. Have not been there for many years.
