Can You Judge A Book By It's Cover

Andy | Sunday, January 22, 2017 | Best Blogger Tips
Sitting on the cold sidewalk she is hoping that a passerby will place some coins in the cup. Can one really judge a person in need by the way they dress? At times that can be a difficult question. Then again there are agencies that will help people in need of clothing. The Red Cross and the Salvation Army are couple of names that come to mind. What would you do if you saw this woman on the street? Walk on by, giver her some money, maybe event stop and talk to her?

  1. Its a real pity to see someone in this state in cold weather. A unfortunate sign of times and it seams worse every year. Really no progress made unless we are talking about your photography.

  2. We don't see much people like these sitting in the streets anymore here.

  3. I dunno...depending upon my mood I might give her some money or walk on by. Another very nice slice-of-life shot!

  4. I have, on occasion, given money, but I am reluctant because I'm not sure if those funds will go to something good (food/shelter) or bad (support addiction). Great photo, BTW. I think the texture in the concrete draws attention from the subject.

  6. I tend to give directly to the agencies- the SA can do the most good with the money.

  7. In our area we've seen an influx of professional panhandlers. They hold up their signs. They avoid eye contact so as to not seem threatening. After collecting a good day's pay, they walk to their out of sight vehicles and go home-- or use the money to support a habit. This is a shame because it makes me not want to help someone who really does need it. Perhaps it is better to support homeless shelters who really do help people.

  8. I have 2 people that I always give $ to but I tend to not give to anyone else. And I always feel bad.

  9. D.C.'s homeless population is exploding, but Trump's going to take care of that. He'll probably deport them.

  10. Tough times and sad to see. I would offer to get her some food and a hot beverage.

  11. I have given money, at times. Always wonder what the money goes toward, though.

  13. great capture. sad subject. I have the impression that most of the people who beg 'chez nous' are part of a chain (organised by mafia or so) so I don't give money. you can see groups of women carrying small children who start from one point and then disperse each going to a designated place where they sit and beg.

  14. Generally I don't give money. Too many times I have read about scams. On the other hand, I give quite a bit to local food pantries. They can figure out better than I whom to support, and they have ways of stretching the money I give further than I can.
