Made In Germany?

I spotted this relic parked on the street. To me it looks like a German WWII Motorcycle.

  1. I am not sure but for me it looks like a Russian Ural or Dnepr . You saw a lot for people who couldn't pay for a BMW in the sixties.

  2. I agree. And probably early 40s. Nice catch. Hard to imagine that thing is just sitting on the street.

  3. That could be possible indeed, it looks rather old, a war trophy!

  4. Better hide it from the American Pickers.

  5. A real old-timer. It has had a long life.

  6. Wonderful looking bike and sidecar rig. A couple things tells me that it is an old Urals. They made exact nut for bolt copies of WW II German BMW outfits. I think the give-a-way is the front fender which is unique to the Urals, and the markings on the gas tank. The heat distributor on the exhaust pipe was only added to BMWs in the 1960s. It is still great looking and must run, or it would not be sitting there. S. C. knows his motorcycles.

  7. And looks to be in better shape than I am, for (approximately)the same vintage.

  8. Sure looks like it's been through a few wars.

  9. There's someone here that has a similar model I sometimes see, but I think it's stored indoors over the winter.

  11. It looks like something from an old WWII movie. I'm impressed that a couple of your commentators can actually parse out what it may be.

  12. I think it looked like a Russian 'Neval', the petrol tank looks different than a Dnepr or Ural. I had a friend who owned a Neval, we affectionately referred to it as a 'Never' mostly because it never ran ;-). One cool feature of the Neval was the driven third wheel (there was drive shaft connected to the wheel on the sidecar, which gave it extra traction. Cool bike, cool photo.

I love all bikes, this one is special.
