In the netherlands this has first to be critized by a commission for the looks of the city before given permission or not otherwise you can get a nice fine and have to undone your painting. The most things lying in visual sight of the public space have to follow certain rules but they can differ from town to town. Sometimes this rules can make a family real crazy and the building practitioners are always protesting against sometimes very strange verdicts.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they are good neighbours, but they have different tastes I think. Why red stairs, the house looks almost like our flag, red, white and blue.
ReplyDeleteNope...the fence says the most.
ReplyDeleteI am thinking they're not the best of friends... Funny find!
ReplyDeleteYou must admit it's a great paint job. The dividing line is so straight and it lines up perfectly with the fence.
DeleteFences make good neighbours.
ReplyDeleteIt almost looks like you merged two different photos.
ReplyDeleteNo way Sharon. Theses are two real houses locate in Toronto. Unfortunately I can't remember the exact location.
DeleteMy first thought is NO, but then again, maybe this is how they worked it out. Sure does make an interesting photo!
ReplyDeleteI've seen lots of these Toronto duplexes on HGTV, and they always crack me up. I'm guessing, however, these people might like each other but the ones in the blue house probably don't like the gardening style of the ones in the black house. Our neighbours don't like our gardening style, either, which is the primary basis for my guess, Andy.
ReplyDeleteA fun photo. And the paint job is perfect, even that vertical piece of wood at the peak of the roof is bicoloured.

Great find, and good question! The fence doesn't indicate peace and harmony, but the front doors look like a concession to "I'll make this go with your trim." Front door on the black house is close to blue's, front door on the blue house sort of echoes the black house's trim.
ReplyDeleteHaha, the folks on the left seem perhaps a bit more easy-going? But never judge a book (precisely-divided paint job) by its cover!
ReplyDeleteI was noticing how perfectly straight the separation point is from peak to ground. It's a good illustration of how very different a place can look with the right or the wrong paint job. Great catch!
ReplyDeleteHmmm....good question! I'm thinking they could have collaborated and made it all the same. lol....
ReplyDeleteHey good fences make good neighbours. It is clean. You could have a slob next door with garbage all in the front on his stairs.
ReplyDeleteI like colour so I dont mine it.
When I went to Halifax and all in the side roads.
All the homes had all different colors. I like blue so I just bought this house. Tee,hee
We are known for too reserved people. I read it. Canada and the states.
So we need to start painting guys.
