  5. Sharon's comment reminded me of what we were told in Alaska. You can tell grizzly poop from black bear poop because grizzly poop has little bells in it.

  6. I remember signs like these from our holiday in BC 2 years ago, but only saw one black bear from the car. When we were hiking we had a bell on our backpack..

  9. oh, no, now that song is entrenced in my mind! Our school librarian had a teddy bear's picnic as a reward each spring for the first graders. Of course, students were accompanied by their stuffed bears. BTW, I brought some of my bears from home in case any child might not own one.

  10. Ummm...that sign should be in RED. Danger, danger Will Robinson! I would turn around and go home if I saw that sign. I'd rather kayak among the gators than face a bear!

  11. I try to avoid being around bears, but if you do go for a walk in the woods take your dog along. Bears are afraid of dogs, so a barking dog should keep them away. Interesting sign.

  12. I have to say I'd like to photograph a bear...without being eaten, of course.

  13. Eeek! Signs warning of bears always make me hesitate. Did you venture in?

  14. Before we backpacked in California years ago we were told the "bear problem" in that area had been taken care of. Once we got into the wilderness we saw prior evidence: shredded food bags flying like prayer flags in trees, long, deep claw marks through the bark of trees. "Phew!" we thought. "Dodged that bullet." Then we saw fresh bear poop in the middle of a trail. We didn't sleep very well and didn't stay as long as planned.
