I was hoping that with this post I would have got an answer for the purple pine cones but everyone else is also stumped. By the way... there is definitely no Photoshop involved. I took the picture on my visit to Cape Breton Island in July 2009. It was so cold there that at night we had to turn the heater on in the motel rooms. Maybe it was the weather.
