Go Transit Bus

Metrolinx has unveiled this year’s ‘Ride with Pride’ GO bus. The debut of the multi coloured bus wrap, was meant to show support for the region’s LGBTQ+ community. Metrolinx believes Pride month is more than a celebration – it is a reminder that we need to continue to support diversity and inclusion, and safe journeys for everyone.

Milfoil Weed Boat

The City of Pickering has joined forces with the Pickering Harbour Company to wage war on Eurasian water-milfoil weed on Frenchman’s Bay. The spread of the non-native aquatic plant in the lakes is a continuing problem.

The weed also known as the ‘Zombie Plant’ can reduce biodiversity and water quality and poses a hazard to those using the Bay. To date, PHC has completed cutting around its docks, as well as a channel within Frenchman’s Bay to the harbour entrance breakwaters.

Water lilies are rooted in the soil at the bottom of the lake, with their leaves and flowers visible on the surface. They provides important benefits to the ecosystem. They create food and shelter for both aquatic and non-aquatic wildlife.

Bridge

The City Of Pickering's iconic pedestrian bridge lit up in the background has been declared by the Guinness World Records as the longest enclosed pedestrian bridge in the world.

The $38 million dollar bridge that has become a landmark in the city east of Toronto, crossing Highway 401 earned the record after being measured at 250 meters in length. The bridge was completed in 2018 and is considered a feat of engineering, crossing 14 highway lanes, six live rail tracks and a city road.

Covid-19 has created a shortage of workers. Competition to attract new staff is fierce, qualified candidates are routinely receiving multiple offers, and workers are driving a harder bargain. Many are demanding a increase in wages.

Artist Ted Hamer: This piece references the saying "If you love something, set it free; if it comes back, it's yours" by depicting a girl releasing a bird, that symbolizes love.
