The City of Pickering has joined forces with the Pickering Harbour Company to wage war on Eurasian water-milfoil weed on Frenchman’s Bay. The spread of the non-native aquatic plant in the lakes is a continuing problem.
__
The weed also known as the ‘Zombie Plant’ can reduce biodiversity and water quality and poses a hazard to those using the Bay. To date, PHC has completed cutting around its docks, as well as a channel within Frenchman’s Bay to the harbour entrance breakwaters.
...a problem here too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a serious working boat to attack this invasive weed. Hope it is successful in improving water quality.
ReplyDeleteInteresting looking boat. I hope they'll succeed in getting the water quality back to where it should be.
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of this, Andy!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a tough job. I hope they are making headway.
ReplyDeleteHopefully it works.
ReplyDeleteIt's good they are trying to deal with it.
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting, good to remove then.
ReplyDeleteRemarkable--- I know that non-native water plants are a problem here as well. ANd.... In our dark rainforest areas, moss grows on ALL sides. I remember from my youth around the greater San Francisco bay area, it was only the north side for sure.
ReplyDeleteHey we see those boats here too. Waterplants can become a real plague but we humans puts far too many phosphates in the water and that only promote growth.
ReplyDeleteThat can be a serious problem.
