This Tree Has Sole

Andy | Tuesday, June 26, 2012 | Best Blogger Tips

I've seen a few of theses tree shoes in my travels. There's various reasons why they get started. It could start from one person tossing his or her footwear high into the sky, to catch on an out of reach branch. That first pair of shoes triggers a shoe cascade until you get a roadside attraction like this one.

Rib Fest

Andy | Friday, June 15, 2012 | | Best Blogger Tips

The Pickering Rib Fest started on a Friday and ran all weekend. Friday was a washout with torrential rains all day. The people in this photo turned out on Saturday. They were making up for the lost day.

****************************************

Friday's rain brought in a cold front so we were back into jacket weather. Sunday also turned out to be rainy. So what you see turned out to be the best day for Rib Fest Weekend.

Shiraz Restaurant

Andy | Thursday, June 14, 2012 | Best Blogger Tips

It was the colour of this restaurant that got my attention. I had just had lunch at a different place so I have no review on the food. Located in Halifax, Nova Scotia some people describe the "Shiraz" as one of the city's treasures.

Jumbo

Andy | Monday, June 04, 2012 | | Best Blogger Tips

Jumbo was billed as the largest elephant in the world. He was the star attraction at “The Greatest Show on Earth,” the Barnum & Bailey Circus that was performing in St. Thomas, Ontario when he was struck and killed by a train locomotive on September 15, 1885.

*******************************************

In his memory, the townspeople commisioned Winston Bronnum of Sussex, New Brunswick to consruct this life sized statue made of concret and steel reenforcing rods. The Jumbo statue was unveiled June 28, 1985 in St. Thomas.

Sunday Bridges - Little Rouge River Bridge

Andy | Sunday, June 03, 2012 | Best Blogger Tips

Located on a quiet winding roadway, it's a short but very scenic road that winds through Rouge Park in eastern Toronto.

*******************************************

This bridge is a small, but well-preserved example of a concrete bowstring through arch, sometimes called a rainbow arch type of bridge. This structure type may have once been common, and although a number of examples survive scattered throughout the province, this structure type should be considered rare today. I looked for a construction date but saw none.

Creemore's Jail - North America's Smallest

Andy | Friday, June 01, 2012 | Best Blogger Tips

Located in Creemore, Ontario.

*******************************

Built in 1892 at a cost of $425.20, Creemore's jail is advertised as the smallest jail in North America.

*******************************

There's only one way in and one way out.

*******************************

There are three cells within the jail and during the period of operation it generally incarcerated people for drinking offenses. The jail was used from 1892 until the 1940's when it was locked up and left vacant. It currently is open to visitors during the summer months. If you are in Creemore you must stop by. It is at the corner of Library St. and Caroline Streets, next to the Creemore Public Library.
