Ghost Town - School Section #17
A brick schoolhouse in the Altona Ghost Town, built in the 1850's, fell victim to fire in 1909. The school that stands today in Altona is therefore of a much later period by nearly fifty years. In June 1909, a call for tenders was advertised for the erection of a new brick schoolhouse for Altona. The building was completed and opened in 1911. For the next fifty-five years the ‘new’ school served the community. Renovations to the basement were made in the early 1960's to accommodate a second school room, and a second teacher was hired. With the advent of the regional school boards, however, the school was closed in 1966 and the students were bused away from Altona. I'm Linking to Weekly Top Shot.

Friday Fences - Horse
Behind this fence is a really small horse. He's not much bigger than a German Sheppard dog.

Explorering
This is a continuation of yesterday's posting. I decided to explorer the rest of the property and here's a few items I discovered. What's left of the farm house is located about 300 feet from the barn.

Resident Campaign Protects Home
A much-loved West Shore home will remain safe from developers after council voted to initiate a heritage designation for the building. Many residents spoke out about their love for the Georgian-style cottage at 560 Park Cres. during a four-hour discussion at a council meeting on April 16, where they presented more than 1,000 signatures in support of giving the home heritage designation, which would protect it from demolition. The home, built in the 1850's, is one of the last vestiges of an early Scottish settlement surrounding the hamlet of Dunbarton.

Weekend Reflections - Fiery
The reason for the red glow is that the sun was setting behind me. Having the shutter opened for twenty seconds is the reason for the hazy or fiery reflection. I'm linking to Weekend Reflections.

The Pickering Pioneer Family
Artist: Andred Drenters. This steel and copper sculpture of a man holding the former Town Of Pickering crest, a girl with a ball, a boy with a sail boat and woman with a goose, represents one of Pickering's founding farm families. Agriculture materials and symbols have been incorporated into the artwork. It was donated by Murray Stroud Law Office in 1989.

Mellow Yellow Monday - Hot Rod
When I first saw this hot rod sitting in the parking lot at the beach, I suddenly started to hear The Beach Boys music playing in my head. I'm linking to Mellow Yellow Monday
