Canada At D-Day

The Holy Roller, a U.S. built Sherman M4 tank that was manned in the battle by members of the 1st Hussars, has sat in London Ontario’s Victoria Park since 1950 when it was dedicated to the regiment. The "Holy Roller" landed on Juno Beach with the 1st Hussars regiment in Normandy roughly 45 minutes after the first assault troops went in. Its gun was damaged two times during the war and was one of only two Canadian tanks to survive the conflict.

  2. It is a day of remembrance for many countries around the world and your picture is a great tribute. Unfortunately, these commemorations do not make men wiser....

  3. It always touches me to see the remains of that battle. I watched the remembrance in Portmouth yesterday on televison, so impressive with even some surviver soldiers of the battle nearly 100 years old.

  6. A killing machine. It's sad what we do to other human beings and ourselves.

  8. I like the perspective of the child sitting on top of the tank. That's a big, heavy hunk of metal!!

  9. My father was there. He never talked about the war but I've recovered his Navy records and learned he was also in the Pacific theatre. It worries me that so many know so little about history.
