...the Boer War is something that I know little about. It's too hard to keep ALL the wars straight.
ReplyDeleteThese memorials are always impressive and beautiful, this one is no exception, it is superb
ReplyDeleteThe city looks so colorless at this time of year, Andy! I've always liked that memorial.
ReplyDeleteThat's an impressive memorial.
ReplyDeleteAllward's style is so distinctive, very fitting for war memorials. I admit, the South African War wasn't taught in schools, perhaps because there was always less of an emphasis on history, but also because it was relatively close to the First World War which would have completely overshadowed it. It wasn't until coming to Ottawa that I started to really learn more about it.
ReplyDeleteThe memorial though has always struck me whenever I've seen it on trips into Toronto.
It is a tall memorial located amid all the tall buildings.
ReplyDeleteNice capture of an impressive memorial. Have a Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteFunny we must have some monuments honoring the other side but don’t know where.
ReplyDeleteThe Boer War, amazing that the Canadians had to fight in South Africa! All for the Great Empire that is disappearing piece by piece.....
ReplyDeleteThat's something I've learned today, quite a big statue.
ReplyDeleteCanadians have fought in all the major wars of the 20th Century. Surprising to see a memorial to the Boar War.
ReplyDeleteThis is a powerful photo; you have captured well the essence of the conflict and the photo exudes danger and also the terror of armed militants willing to die for a cause, right or wrong.
ReplyDeleteMuch emotion... I don't understand why History, Music, and Science have all become disposable. A fine picture of a wonderful monument.
ReplyDeleteI always wonder how many people pass these memorials everyday and have never stopped to look.
