Canada Geese

The young are called goslings. They can walk, swim, and feed within 24 hours. Both parents especially the male will vigorously defend the babies until they are able to fly, which is at about ten weeks. The young geese remain with their family group for about one year.

  1. That brood looks like someone snuck another mother's eggs into the nest, if not, that poor mom to have laid that many eggs! Wow is right!

  2. They must be running a day care service for other goose families. I haven't seen any young ones yet this spring.

  3. A wonderful family portrait. These goslings are bigger than the ones I've seen here. Probably because right after the babies hatch here in our parking lot, the parents move them to a different location.
