Rules

Rather than take photography lessons I prefer to learn from books. My main reason for that is regardless of what ever I am training for, I always seem to go off and do my own thing. In this case I just end up doing what my eyes tell me to do. One of the basic things taught in photography is "the rule of thirds". It is just a simple way of aligning subjects. Today's posting is the closest that I will every come to that rule.

Setting Up Shop

We use many different terms to describe young people who are homeless, including street youth, street kids, runaways, homeless youth, etc. According recent estimates, there are anywhere from 65,000 to 150,000 homeless youth living in the streets of Canada on any given day. Young people on the streets typically become homeless for a number of reasons. Conflicts and problems within the family are often significant here. Around 70% of homeless youth report having experienced physical, sexual and emotional abuse. My thanks to "The Homeless Hub" for the above information.

Bell Media Building

Originally known as the Wesley Building, 299 Queen West Toronto, was constructed in 1913 by architects Burke, Horwood, and White, and served as the headquarters of the Methodist Church of Canada until 1959, when it became home to the Ryerson Press. The building was purchased in 1985 by CHUM Radio, and it was subsequently converted to television and studio use. The reinvigorated building has thrived ever since, first as the CHUM-City Building before undergoing a name change in 2007 when Bell Media purchased CHUM. Remarkably, the striking Neo-Gothic facade made of white terracotta has changed little over its 105 year life span.

Bicycle Frame

Do you securely lock your bike to a stand to prevent theft? No problem to the thief... they will just take the parts. Recovery is also rarity for bike owners, with Police citing the convertible nature of the bike, which can be quickly and easily converted into cash or parts and sold on the streets or online.

My Springtime Weather

This is my weekend weather forecast: Freezing rain and ice pellets have arrived (Saturday) as expected. It is forecast to change to all ice pellets before much ice builds up, with several centimetres of ice pellets expected.

The precipitation will likely taper off to some freezing drizzle Saturday evening. However, freezing rain is expected to move back in, and may persist well into Sunday before changing over to rain. Significant rain may fall late Sunday and Sunday night creating localized flooding.

Ice build up of 10 to possibly 20 mm is likely by late Sunday.

Ice accumulations of this magnitude combined with gusty northeast winds of 70 to 80 km/h may result in considerable power outages due to fallen tree limbs and power lines.

Tundra Swans

On their way to Arctic Region between Alaska and Baffin Island the swans stop here to refuel on their migration journey.

Each year it's expected that ten to sixty thousand birds will stopover here. The best time to view vast numbers of swans is early morning or late evening. Unfortunately I was there midday when their numbers are reduced.
