A place to purchase CD and DVDs HMV has fallen to the digital age. A Ontario Superior Court of Justice approved an application to place the company into receivership. The Canadian unit was an offshoot of HMV’s U.K. operations. HMV is still a going concern in Britain. But not all is lost. Sunrise Records the Toronto based chain said it plans to open as many as 70 stores across the country after buying up properties made vacant when HMV went into receivership. The new stores will have a heavy focus on vinyl, which is seeing a resurgent popularity. Every location will have more than 2,000 titles of vinyl in stock at all locations.

But when it comes to youth and children, the reasons tend to revolve around the family.  In Toronto, estimates range from 900 to 2,000 nightly. Far more than can be accommodated by the 489 beds in youth shelters.

Saving The Sign

Continuing from yesterday's posting. The the iconic Honest Ed’s sign will be saved and place outside the Ed Mirvish Theatre in downtown Toronto in honour of the store’s founder. A plaque at ground level will explain the history of the store and its connection to the theatre. This is one of the ways that people of Toronto preserve the city's heritage and history.

After 68 years in business, Toronto's iconic discount store that boasted about price cutting, decades before Walmart, has closed. The property was sold to a developer who plans to rebuild the area. After the final closing it did not take long for graffiti to appear.

There will be no streetcar service on Queen St. this summer. From May to September, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) will be replacing streetcars with buses along the route due to a number of construction projects both the city and the TTC are undertaking. The 501 is the city’s third busiest streetcar route with 43,000 daily riders.
