Mayor John Tory says he has a “deep concern” about the number of people sleeping on the streets of Toronto and the encampments that persistently pop up in the downtown. “It’s not that I’m embarrassed about it. I mean I am embarrassed about it, but it’s more that I just feel, morally, surely we can do better than this.

  1. It must give an uncomfortable feeling to photograph these people on the streets. I know its a picture of our times but also very troublesome.

  4. There is a homeless shelter in Ocala, I believe. The powers-that-be attempt to keep the homeless off the streets but they are not entirely successful. Another poignant photo!

  5. My best friend David worked for our homeless shelter until last month when he moved to the Arizona Humane Society. He does fund raising and donor relations. He has been telling me about the huge differences between reactions he gets to working to support homeless people and working to support homeless animals. I think there is an interesting message about human nature in there somewhere.

  6. Andy, this is a sad photo, but perfect in b&w. Homelessness is a common and longstanding problem in our nation. We do what we can to end it.
