Since You’re Here …

In 2017 more than 15,000 people have crossed the USA Canadian border into Canada illegally to claim refugee status. Many were in the United States legally and some interviewed said they might have stayed were it not for an immigration crackdown. And while anyone can try to claim asylum in Canada, there’s no guarantee they’ll be accepted.

  3. The US is a land of immigrants, so why do immigrants shun more immigrants ....?

  4. It is really a subject difficult coach on one side it is atrocious all these poor people who avoided their country because of the war, of the fear, of the hunger and of the other reasons but at the same time no country can welcome all those who knock in his door. All the international community has to participate and it is necessary to impose some rules also so that the welcome does not become a nightmare. Yes, really a difficult subject Andy...

  7. Our anti-immigration politicians have apparently forgotten the phrase "There but for the grace of God go I". I've spent the morning listening to a bunch of them talking about how guns aren't the problem. They are all idiots.

  8. Every time we have taken in refugees, there have been naysayers who have warned about it, and every single time, our country has been richer in the long run for doing so.

  9. There is just no defense for the current administration's policy toward immigrants. Canada has always shown a kinder heart.

  10. I have no issue with refugees and feel for their struggle, I also feel that there are many Canadians (homeless, veterans, persons with mental health concerns) who also need a helping hand.

  11. Everyone in the US of A is an immigrant or descendant of immigrants with the exception of the Native Peoples. People like Trump hate immigrants, maybe because they remind them of their own lowly background or because they're afraid they'll take a piece of what their descendants stole. But Trump is a horrible hypocrite for he uses illegals on many of his projects here in Florida, including Mar-A-Lago.

  12. Immigrants deserve a better life, more compassion and understanding. That's all they want and what's wrong with that. I just don't understand the hatred in today's world towards them.

  13. We have plenty of immigrants still coming here to NZ, some good and some not so good. I guess that's how it is wherever you go in the world.

  14. I don't approve of how ICE is handling immigration. Families are being split up, agents are picking up anyone they can off of like Greyhound and Amtrak. None of these immigrants get federal welfare. They can't be denied emergency medical care, but that's being humanitarian. Too many Americans confuse healthcare with welfare.

  15. I'd heard there was a tide heading north and I'm not surprised. (I occasionally think I should do the same.) Our government's never been perfect but I think this is the worst I've seen in my lifetime.

  17. I spoke recently with a friend who lives in northern New York and was shocked at the veritable flood of people heading across the border into Canada. We sure do have a messed up immigration policy down here. We are a nation built by people choosing to better their lives in America and now we have turned our backs. I suspect it is a four year blip in our sanity.
