Street Poverty

Those who live with chronic poverty often struggle to overcome multiple disadvantages. These include:
Housing situations that range from acceptable subsidized housing.
Low education levels.
Difficulty in finding or keeping employment.
Addictions or varying degrees of mental or physical health issues.
Poor social or support networks.

When you are down and out never pass up a good cigarette butt. People become trapped and this can steal any hope they have.

  1. You have hit the nail on the head. Poverty is a horrible problem. Our government makes fun of poor people and pretends they're poor because they want to be. Studies have shown that it's damn near impossible to overcome poverty and if you're born poor the odds are overwhelming your going to die poor! Can't imagine what these folks have to go through, especially in cold weather. You've got some fantastic photos dealing with this problem. Maybe you should think of doing a retrospective ... at a museum or college. You could get some college photo program to help with the framing, etc. It would be fantastic!

  6. Life can be brutally cruel and people just ignore it like it really doesn't exist. Bus them to another city and let them be someone else's problem, that's doesn't solve anything either. What is the solution?

  9. It makes me sad that people think it's ok to get to that level in their lives of being homeless. There is help for homeless people here if you want it but many of them prefer to live on the streets.

  11. It's a downward spiral. Success builds on itself; poverty is a cruel, vicious undertow.

  12. It's ever so sad - have seen people do this before with cigarette buts, and think how dreadful, but if they want to smoke it's their only way usually.
