Weekly Top Shot- Delta London (Ontario) Armouries Hotel

Andy | Saturday, December 01, 2012 | Best Blogger Tips

Not a castle, but rather a hotel built within an authentic Armoury. Originally constructed in 1905, it was the location for training Canadian soldiers during the two world wars. Inside you will find archival photographs, uniforms and other wartime artifacts on display.

The east entrance remains as a reminder that it once was once a military building where arms, ammunition and other military equipment were stored. I'm Linking to Weekly Top Shot.

  1. Such a huge contrast with the modern buildings behind it. It's a good thing that this part of history still exists.

  4. And now it is a hotel? Wow. I remember being so impressed, as a child, the first time I saw the "castle" housing the Armoury in Vancouver, and it's nowhere as big as this.
I love that style of construction.

  5. Quite a contrast with the modern! Nice to see something like this preserved and reused. Sadly, old buildings like this in the U.S. often fell to "progress," mostly in the 1970s.

  6. How very unique. And I love the idea that the hotel didn't tear it down but built inside of the armory. It's very beautiful.

  13. a bit more sympathetic design might have been preferable, but at least it wasn't torn down entirely.
