Not a castle, but rather a hotel built within an authentic Armoury. Originally constructed in 1905, it was the location for training Canadian soldiers during the two world wars. Inside you will find archival photographs, uniforms and other wartime artifacts on display.

The east entrance remains as a reminder that it once was once a military building where arms, ammunition and other military equipment were stored. I'm Linking to Weekly Top Shot.
Such a huge contrast with the modern buildings behind it. It's a good thing that this part of history still exists.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the modern building is distracting.
ReplyDeleteThe mix of old and new architecture is startling and amazing contrast!
ReplyDeleteAnd now it is a hotel? Wow. I remember being so impressed, as a child, the first time I saw the "castle" housing the Armoury in Vancouver, and it's nowhere as big as this.
ReplyDeleteI love that style of construction.

Quite a contrast with the modern! Nice to see something like this preserved and reused. Sadly, old buildings like this in the U.S. often fell to "progress," mostly in the 1970s.
ReplyDeleteHow very unique. And I love the idea that the hotel didn't tear it down but built inside of the armory. It's very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot. Perfect example of old and new architecture.
ReplyDeleteVisiting from the Weekly Top Shot. I lived in Canada (Toronto and surrounding areas) for over 20 years. Recently I moved back to my home country Poland. Glad I found your blog. Will visit again to see a bit of my beloved Canada, which became a second home to me.
ReplyDeleteIt looks fancy. Did you stay there?
ReplyDeleteI have been to the delta inscarborough, but it's to so fancy. :)

ReplyDeleteRegards.
Wonderful. Great shot. Have a beautiful week.
ReplyDeletea bit more sympathetic design might have been preferable, but at least it wasn't torn down entirely.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great looking place!
ReplyDeleteThis is an impressive piece of architecture. Love the turret thingies. Remind me of the Tower of London. Hope all is well. Have a good week and take lots of photos for us. Am waiting for a good sign on Thursday. genie
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great place... looks like a fortress! Thank you for sharing on Weekly Top Shot #59!
