Frozen River

Notice the lack of footprints in the snow? That is because the flowing river forms air pockets under the ice making unsafe to walk on.

  1. It is that you say its a river. Otherwise I should have seen a nice still not used path.

  3. It reminds me of my many days walking the shores of Bowmanville Creek. Is it there, by chance?

  4. Good to see people are using common sense, an increasingly rare phenomenon these days.

That looks like an overgrown trail to the left, a potential place to explore :-)

  5. While I have no problem walking on Canal ice, I'm always wary of river ice, particularly when you know the water's deep.

  7. Nope. I don't think I'd be inclined to walk on a river any time of year. Very pretty scene!
BTW: You're so right in your comment about our winters! They're w-a-a-a-y less severe than yours. Though we get some freezing weather, snow is rare and it's generally far more temperate than what you experience. We have marine influences that keep things mild, though it means many grey days. Compared to you we have it easy, though I'm still a wimp and can't seem to resist complaining.
