The Aylmer Wildlife Management Area Habitat is a stopover for the swans on their spring migration to the high Arctic Region between Alaska and Baffin Island. Some 120,000 swans make a first landing at sites around Lake Erie in Ohio, Michigan and southwestern Ontario. On this day that I attended there were only a couple of hundred swans. The day before there were 3,148. The count varies throughout the day. Because corn is fed daily at the Wildlife Management Area, swans concentrate in numbers here.

ReplyDeleteSwan Lake! I've never seen so many of these critters in one place. They are beautiful, but can be rather nasty, too.
ReplyDeletecool critters
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I must be wonderful to see this graceful birds pass through your area.
ReplyDeleteThey are such beautiful creatures. I rarely see them in person.
ReplyDeleteGreat action shots of these majestic birds. So, is that the Swanee River in the background?
ReplyDeleteI'm not far from the Chesapeake, I should find their wintering site (the bay is pretty big and awesome). They are beautiful birds.
ReplyDeleteIt must be fantastic to see so many all at one time! I'm a tad jealous. Did you know that a few Tundra Swans also cross over your and my neck of the woods? Last week I saw five in an East Gwillimbury farmer's field.
ReplyDeleteIt is certainly an incredible sight to see so many swans.
ReplyDeleteReally magnificent pictures.
Wow, Andy! What a fabulous sight that is!

"Only a couple hundred" is a lot more swans than I'm used to seeing! Very nice! It looks like a real swan buffet, too.
