Goodbye November hello December. The entire month turned out to be milder than normal. Environment Canada is predicting a winter that even if normal, it will feel tropical compared to the last two winters.

The Monty Hall Problem
Nothing special today. Just having some fun with crazy things going through my mind.
Suppose you're on a game show, and you're given the choice of three doors: Behind one door is a car; behind the others, goats. You pick a door, say No. 1, and the host, who knows what's behind the doors, opens another door, say No. 3, which has a goat. He then says to you, "Do you want to pick door No. 2?" Is it to your advantage to switch your choice?

Signs - Remembrance Day Canada 2015
The people of the world genuinely want peace. Some day the leaders of the world are going to have to give in and give, it to them. Dwight D. Eisenhower. On remembrance day members of the armed forces are commemorated. The other common name for this day is Armistice Day which marks the date and time when armies stopped fighting World War I on November 11th at 11am in 1918 the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. I'm linking to Lesley's Signs, Signs.

Grist Mill
In 1846, Thomas Short, erected this stone flour mill here on the Indian River. Within five years he had built a sawmill across the river and had laid out a village plot named Allandale. By 1858, the Allandale Flour Mill, which now also housed an oatmeal mill, had become one of the largest in the region and was exporting large quantities of its products. Short encountered financial difficulties however, and lost possession of the mill in 1862. The village and the mill were re-named Lang after William Lang about 1872. The mill, whose interior was rebuilt by W.J. Humphries after a fire in 1896, continued in operation until 1965 when it was purchased by the Otonabee Region Conservation Authority. Presently the mill is maintained and preserved by the Lang Pioneer Village Museum.

Hanging On
Continuing my post from yesterday. Beauty has sprung from a section of land that was completely stripped of plant life. The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) goal is one of protecting and restoring ecological function and resilience to both aquatic and terrestrial systems. Restoration of the site involves the placement of clean fill which will be shaped to collect and direct surface flow into a newly created hardwood swamp. The hardwood swamp will treat and cool surface water and will discharge into a small tributary that flows into East Duffins Creek. Restoration of this area will improve habitat for fish and wildlife communities, including Atlantic salmon and brook trout, and will provide future recreational opportunities for the public.

Restoring Conservation Land
Located on a gravel pit that was abandon about 30 years ago. It is an area where I have done considerable walking. I stopped in 2011 when the local conservation authority purchased the land and placed "No Trespassing" signs up. They just recently removed the signs, so I deiced to do some exploring. Past activities have altered the topography, drainage and ability to support historic vegetation. There is very little topsoil and the ground is mostly sand and gravel. Fortunately Mother Nature has her own plans and is making a comeback.

Signs - Embed
Apparently a few years ago someone did not like this sign and took it out on the tree. I'm linking to Lesley's Signs, Signs.
