Winter Games

Only fanatics would play a game of chess outdoors in the winter.

  1. I often regret that in our cities and our villages, chessboards or checkerboards are not so settled so that we can play at any time with a person who passes. Excellent photo!

  2. You most love that game in these conditions and by the look of it they do. Nice B&W.

  3. I agree with you, to lean on a stonecold table for a long time....not my cup of tea.

  6. I see they have wood slats for the seats, which would help. Nice street shot.

  10. What the hell's wrong with you people up there? When it's cold outside you go inside. That's not that difficult a concept. Sheesh! Nice shot, though. You could label it "Dumbasses." Heh, heh. Down in Miami, which is now overridden with Cubans you'll find old Cubans sitting around playing chess in every direction. But Miami is a lot warmer than the North Pole.

  11. They're playing for high stakes- world domination.

One of the parks I pass through regularly has a couple of these inlaid into tables, but you only see them being used for that in warm weather.

  14. That is so rare to see how people play chess on the streets.
My father used to do this with his friends.

  17. I agree. I don't think I'd even take Words with Friends (that I play on my phone) outside. But I like the photo you got of these competitors.

  19. What strikes me about this image is the many contrasts: white hair/black hair, white chess pieces/black, young/old, glasses/no glasses, backpack/ground pack . . . but one main focus.
