I am out early in the morning practising my night shots. When I looked at the results in the viewfinder I see some strange looking lens flares. The camera is on a tripod so I change the angle and the flares are still there. Next I decided to put the lens hood on. That is when I noticed the lens is shattered. Well, not really the lens... but rather the UV filter was shattered.

Never too old to learn something....
ReplyDeleteYes, replacing a filter is much more cost effective, but I've had shots ruined by ghosting/flare from a UV filter, especially in low light. Because of this, I stopped using UV filters and use lens hoods for protection.
ReplyDeleteGlad you only have to replace the filter :)
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I'm so glad it was the filter and not the lens.
ReplyDeleteSo it worked for you. Nice.
ReplyDeleteI assume you have no idea how this happened.
ReplyDeleteA good lesson learned, Andy!
ReplyDeleteOh dear, that's not good, but it could be worse.
ReplyDeleteyes, I've read about this and have a filter. The great thing is, you forget the filter is even there.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you didn't have an accident, Andy. Whew!
Ouch. I wouldn't think of using my good camera without a filter to protect the lens.
ReplyDeleteThat was one of my first and best photography tips. They're very worthwhile insurance.
