You Crack Me Up

Andy | Sunday, March 08, 2015 | Best Blogger Tips

I am out early in the morning practising my night shots. When I looked at the results in the viewfinder I see some strange looking lens flares. The camera is on a tripod so I change the angle and the flares are still there. Next I decided to put the lens hood on. That is when I noticed the lens is shattered. Well, not really the lens... but rather the UV filter was shattered.

The moral of the story is, if you cherish your expensive camera lens, spend the few extra $$$ to protect your equipment with a lens filter. It will save you many tears and expensive replacements.

  1. Yes, replacing a filter is much more cost effective, but I've had shots ruined by ghosting/flare from a UV filter, especially in low light. Because of this, I stopped using UV filters and use lens hoods for protection.

  6. yes, I've read about this and have a filter. The great thing is, you forget the filter is even there.

  7. Ouch. I wouldn't think of using my good camera without a filter to protect the lens.

  8. That was one of my first and best photography tips. They're very worthwhile insurance.
