Water can create enough energy to uproot trees and push large chunks of ice around. Today is the start of my weekend water postings. Watch for more on Saturday and Sunday.

  1. The water level most be heavy fallen at the look of the trunk and the chunks of ice. Rain and snow season over?

  2. Love this shot. I'd like to see the same shot in the middle of summer. And you are certainly right about the power of water - it's scary!

  3. Those chunks of ice are really thick! What a winter this has been.

  4. The power of water is incredible. Hope Spring starts warming up here soon. We had our ice jams a week or so ago. Once the ground thaws we need to have soaking rains. Reports about the ongoing draught especially from northern Iowa are in the local media today.

  5. Yes, you don't want to be in the way of this stuff and let it push you around. I will never forget the ice break up on the Mackenzie river. There was so much water backed up to push the ice out of the way that the break up was always spectacular.

  6. It does sound like you're having a very long winter, Andy! Our snow "threat" didn't pan out, but it sounds like yours doesn't know when to quit. And this scene looks sunny but so cold!

  7. I love this photo, Andy. It makes me think of my dad, who loved rivers and streams, and photographed hundreds of them.

  8. I've been stepping around and over blocks of ice for a few weeks now (Bowmanville Creek). It never fails to evoke a feeling of awe over the power.
